Months after the Corporate Affairs Commission warned companies that it would enforce CAMA 2020 disclosure requirements on business letters, the compliance question has moved from “Are companies ready?” to “Who is actually complying?”
The CAC’s August 1 enforcement deadline requires companies to disclose their registered name, registration number, registered address and specified details of their directors, including the nationality of non-Nigerian directors.
But has the warning changed corporate practice? Are companies’ letterheads, quotations, invoices and official correspondence now compliant? Are compliance officers auditing old templates? Are penalties actually being imposed? And how many companies remain unaware that a seemingly routine letterhead could expose both the company and its officers to sanctions?
The bigger question: is CAC’s crackdown finally changing corporate culture—or merely creating another compliance deadline?
