Basec Africa has refunded N2 million to Prolato Technologies Limited, a Lagos-based ICT company that paid N4.875 million for 20 Motorola walkie-talkies and chargers that were not delivered
The refund followed a prolonged dispute between the two companies that eventually resulted in a court case. Prolato Technologies had initially sought the return of its payment after Basec Africa failed to deliver the equipment.
The transaction began in November 2025 after Prolato Technologies contacted Basec Africa to procure Motorola DP1400 walkie-talkies for a client. The ICT firm subsequently paid 70 per cent of the agreed cost, amounting to N4,875,500.
Basec Africa later informed the company that the ordered Motorola DP1400 model was unavailable and proposed an alternative. Prolato Technologies subsequently requested a refund after difficulties surrounding the delivery.
Following continued disagreement over the refund, Prolato Technologies took the matter to a magistrate’s court in Lagos State. According to the company, the court ruled in its favour and awarded N200,000 in damages, although the damages had not been paid as of the time of this report.
The N2 million refund was made on April 17, leaving N2.875 million of the original payment outstanding. Including the court-awarded damages, the company said the total outstanding amount stood at N3.075 million.
Basec Africa’s chief executive, Festus Basil Ndubuisi Ezeonyedi, had previously said the company experienced delays in obtaining the alternative equipment and that the customer subsequently requested a refund. He also cited the ongoing court proceedings in explaining why the refund had not initially been made.
The dispute highlights the importance of clear contractual terms, timely delivery and effective refund procedures in business-to-business transactions.
