PSC Dismisses Three Senior Police Officers, Demotes 16 in Disciplinary Sweep

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the dismissal of three senior police officers and the demotion of 16 others over established cases of misconduct and conduct unbecoming of members of the Nigeria Police Force.

The disciplinary action also includes severe reprimands for 21 officers and ordinary reprimands for two others. Three officers were cleared of wrongdoing, while some previously suspended personnel were reinstated.

The decisions were taken at the Commission’s plenary meeting, chaired by its Chairman, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd), at its corporate headquarters in Abuja.

The PSC said the sanctions formed part of its commitment to enforcing professional standards and accountability within the police.

Argungu reiterated the Commission’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption, human rights violations, interference in land disputes and civil matters, and other forms of professional misconduct.

He assured the public that the Commission would continue to expedite the consideration and resolution of disciplinary cases involving police personnel.

The Chairman also commended the PSC Standing Committee on Discipline and Legal Matters, led by retired Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, alongside other board members and officials, for their work in reviewing disciplinary cases and appeals.

Those recognised included DIG (Dr) Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), Justice Christine Dabup (rtd), Alhaji Abdulfatah Mohammed, the Commission’s Secretary, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, and Ferdinand U. Ekpe, Director of the Police Discipline Department.

The latest decisions underscore the Commission’s disciplinary oversight responsibilities and its role in promoting accountability, professionalism and public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
