GRAZA Media Limited has signalled a strategic shift from conventional Out-of-Home (OOH) advertising to a business model centred on audience intelligence, data, measurement and demonstrable value as it begins its second decade of operations.
The Abuja-based outdoor advertising company made the disclosure at its 10th anniversary event at the Chelsea Hotel, Abuja, held under the theme, “GRAZA at 10 — The Next Decade Starts With Us.”
The company’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Zacchaeus Akinadewo, said the next phase of GRAZA’s growth would require the business to move beyond the ownership and operation of advertising structures and develop stronger capabilities around data, technology and evidence-based media performance.
“A billboard is a product. A location is an asset. An audience is an opportunity. Attention is value. Intelligence creates advantage,” Akinadewo said.
He said the company had achieved its initial objective of establishing a credible outdoor advertising business but now faced a broader strategic question about the organisation it intends to become over the next decade.
“Ten years ago, the opportunity was to build a credible outdoor advertising company. We have done that,” he said. “The question before us now is much bigger: what should GRAZA become over the next ten years?”

From inventory to intelligence..
The company’s stated strategy reflects a wider shift in the advertising market, where clients increasingly demand evidence of audience reach, engagement and return on media investment rather than simply physical visibility.
GRAZA said it intends to strengthen its capabilities in data and measurement, digital and dynamic OOH formats, audience intelligence, campaign reporting, technology and client experience.
“We do not want to be defined simply by the number of structures we own or operate,” Akinadewo said. “We want to be defined by the value we create around those structures. Our ambition is to make visibility more intelligent, more measurable and more useful to the brands we serve.”
The strategic repositioning is framed around a movement from space to influence, presence to intelligence, visibility to evidence, inventory to audience, and execution to insight.
Akinadewo said the changing expectations of advertisers were forcing media companies to provide greater transparency around audience and campaign performance.
“The market has changed,” he said. “Advertisers are asking better questions. They want more than a location. They want to understand audiences, demonstrate value and make smarter decisions. GRAZA must be capable of answering those questions.”
For the company, the implication is that physical media assets will increasingly have to be supported by reliable data, reporting and analytical capabilities if they are to remain commercially relevant.

Accountability as part of the growth strategy….
GRAZA’s transformation agenda also places emphasis on organisational accountability and the role of employees in delivering the company’s proposed repositioning.
“The employee is also the brand,” Akinadewo said. “A logo does not answer the phone. A billboard does not manage a relationship. People do.”
The company identified ownership, responsiveness, client empathy, accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement as elements of its organisational culture.
The emphasis is significant for a business whose proposed competitive advantage depends not only on technology and data, but also on the quality and consistency of its execution and client relationships.

Building an evidence-based industry voice….
GRAZA also intends to expand its role beyond operating outdoor media assets by developing proprietary industry insights and contributing to discussions around audience behaviour and the future of OOH advertising in Abuja and Nigeria.
“We want GRAZA to have something meaningful to say about this industry,” Akinadewo said
“We want our clients, colleagues and competitors to associate our name not only with outdoor media, but with ideas, evidence and a deeper understanding of audiences.”
The company has set an ambition of becoming one of the top five Brand Visibility & Audience Intelligence firms in Abuja, supported by investment in infrastructure, technology, people, client relationships and measurable performance.
Akinadewo, however, stressed that the ambition would have to be demonstrated through performance rather than positioning.
“This is not a slogan for us,” he said. “If we claim that position, we must earn it. Clients must experience the difference. Our people must demonstrate the difference. Our data must demonstrate the difference. Our reporting must demonstrate the difference.”

Looking towards 2036….
GRAZA is already framing its second decade against a longer-term 2036 horizon, when the company expects to mark 20 years in business.
Akinadewo said the organisation was deliberately considering what it would need to build now to make its longer-term ambitions achievable.
“We are deliberately asking ourselves what we want the headline to be when GRAZA turns 20,” he said. “We want to build a business today that makes that future headline believable.”
He acknowledged that the company’s second decade would require changes to established practices.
“The next decade will require courage,” Akinadewo said. “Some things that worked in our first decade may not work in the next. We are prepared to stop what no longer serves us, start what the future requires and protect the things that made GRAZA worth building.”
The anniversary therefore marks more than a decade of operation for GRAZA. It sets out a strategic test for the company’s next phase: whether it can convert its physical OOH presence and established relationships into a more data-driven, measurable and accountable media business.
As Akinadewo put it: “Ten years gives us history. It gives us relationships. It gives us experience. But history is only valuable if it helps you build the future.”
